Every organization today deals with some form of document, and in most cases,  these documents are still in paper form. However,  the electronic form of correspondence is becoming more popular in the workforce.. In any organization, work can and will be performed only after some type of information has been received. This could be a piece of paper arriving by US Mail, a facsimile, an email with an attachment or an electronic form over the web. With added features in today’s office tools such as voice mails or streaming video files, these have to be managed and stored as well.

Business Process Management (BPM)

A Content Management System is incomplete without implementing  Business Process Management. Business Process Management (BMP) is also referred to as “workflow” . BMP provides the ability to process content as it is meant to be processed. For example, when a document, data or any type of content arrives, the BPM ensures that the content is “routed” to the appropriate party for processing as well as it ensures that all process steps are completed prior to the document archiving. BPM also provides statistical information, analytical data, as well as in some systems such as FileNet, where it allows the user to do process analysis and create “what if” scenarios (process simulation) to fine-tune the systems performance as the workload increases or decreases.
